Foster Application – k-9 Elite Dog Training and Rescue

We are THRILLED that you are interested in fostering a dog for K-9 Elite Rescue.

To get things started, we do require that you complete an application. This gives us important information we need to know about you as a foster, and gives us information that helps make proper placement of a dog in your home.

Please keep in mind that submitting an application does not guarantee that we will place a dog in your home. If your application is approved, there may still be a delay between approval of the application and placing a dog – depending on circumstances. K-9 Elite Rescue is also still responsible for all dogs being fostered, and any dog being fostered MUST be released to the rescue upon request.

Last, but not least, being a foster is not for everyone, and that isn’t always obvious until we get started. Some dogs may require more time and attention than others, some may have accidents, and sometimes people grow very attached to the dog in their care and don’t want to let it go. Whatever the change in circumstance, K-9 Elite Rescue wants the best for both our furry friends and our fosters – so please reach out and let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or changes – including just wanting to adopt a dog already in your care.

Are you willing to hire a trainer if needed?K-9 Elite Rescue provides training for all dogs in its care. If you opt to hire a trainer from elsewhere, that cost must be covered by you, the foster/adopter unless other arrangements are made, in advance, with K-9 Elite Rescue.

What helpful training experiences have you had?

Do you agree to strictly follow the 3-3-3 Rule?The 3-3-3 Rule is for the first 3 days, the first 3 weeks, and the first 3 months. It is a guideline that helps to ensure the stability of the dog as it transitions into a new environment, which can be very stressful. The first 3 days should be strictly at home with no visitors to allow for basic acclimation. Expect anxiety and diarrhea. Over the next 3 weeks gradually, and carefully, begin to carefully take on leashed only walks, and begin to introduce to friends and family (if approve by K-9 Elite Rescue). The next 3 months are all about the dog settling in to its new life. Not all fosters stay this long, but some do - and some for even longer. Report any behavior issues along the way to K-9 Elite Rescue.
