When I first helped Linda start the rescue, my goal was to help someone important to me to to lead a life of purpose and meaning while healing from the trauma of an assault. Unfortunately, things haven’t turned out quite like either of us had hoped and dreamed, but there is still plenty of opportunity to continue Linda’s original mission of rescuing dogs and bringing attention to mental health issues.
What we will be building on is a legacy of having successfully rescued over 300 dogs, both as volunteers directly for K-9 Elite Rescue and also as volunteers for other rescues.
In its short life so far, K-9 Elite Rescue has experienced incredible success and and natural challenges. The love and dedication that has gone into rescuing and caring for over 300 dogs is a true testament to the heart of the mission – and that heart remains at the center of everything we do.
My primary objectives as I step into this new role, then, will be to continue to build upon the legacy that Linda has built, strengthening certain areas, completing some unfinished to-do list items, and helping get the the dogs currently in the rescue’s care into the hands of adopters and other rescues. This isn’t going to be a solo endeavor, so I will be working on building a team to help get through this list.
First and foremost, I am looking for transition board members – people who can help in a short term capacity to fill vacant board positions and provide valuable oversight to this community organization. I will meet with the board several times in the next few months, and those meetings can be remote. If you think you may be interested in helping out, please let me know by emailing me at dan@k-9elite.dog and I will reach out to you.
Second, I am looking for donations. This is a crucial item, as there are some expenses that have been lagging due to a lack of funding that MUST be addressed as quickly as possible. My goal for fundraising in the short term is $6000. This will ensure that all the current needs are met and that the organization does not incur any debt in the process. If you are in a position to make a financial contribution, you can make those contributions via https://k-9elite.dog/paypal .
Third – I am looking for fosters and adopters. If you are able to foster or, better yet, adopt, one or two dogs, please visit the web page at https://k-9elite.dog . There is a list of dogs available for adoption, and application forms for both fostering and adopting.
Last, but certainly not least, for all those who have helped Linda and the rescue to date, I extend my utmost appreciation. Not only have you helped rescue dogs and fill holes that many families may never known they had, but you have also helped Linda in her healing. With one last little push together, we can help round out the work she started, and continues to support, while helping her, and these dogs, usher in a new chapter in life.
